Model: Chippewa 27872

"7" steel toed engineer boot.

I bought these almost exactly 5 years ago for EDR1 and immediately pulled out the angle grinder and slanted the heel like a motocross boot, I hate heels hanging up on pegs."

"The break in period was almost nothing and after seeing a good amount miles, never been remotely babied. they've held up well."

"I really miss having Matt around here in socal."

thanks Kim!

Boot Week - 5 Alive - Matthew Davis

I know a lot of people named Matt/Matthew. Maybe its because we have the same name, or maybe its because its a common name....not sure. Matt McConaughey, Matthew Leblanc, Matt Damon....just a few of the Matts that I've kicked a few back with and reminisced about life with.

But this is Matthew Davis, or Matt Davis....DICE Matt Davis? nope.
COMUNE Matt Davis. yes. the most handsome matt, Matt Davis, yep. I'm gonna get rid of this miniature sportster and get an FXR and tear up the west cost Matt Davis, yessirree.

Model: Red Wing 875

"I bought these boots brand new about 2 years ago and they have been amazing.
Out of the box they were so stiff and a bit uncomfortable but after they break in they fit like a glove.
A little trick a good friend of mine taught me is to lace them up and tight as you can and step into a big bucket of water filled to your shins. Sock your boots this way for about 15 minutes and then remove from the water. Leave these on for another 15 minutes and this will help them break in and mold to your feet better."

"These boots have been everywhere with me and have more frequent flyer miles than most of you reading this post."

"A couple call outs on these boots is the shift lever wear on the left boot and the exhaust burns on the right heel. I ride in these boots almost every day so they see alot wear from my motorcycle as well."

"I am about due for a re-sole and will probably get the leather cleaned and conditioned while I am at it.
Definitely a fan of Red Wing and highly recommend them to anyone looking for a great boot that will last you a long time."

yep, more Red Wing love.

Boot Week - Day 4 - my boots?

OK, so 2 weekdays went without a post for a posting series called "____ week". there ARE seven days in the week though! I'm even taking time to post on the O.G. sabbath, saturday.

I hadn't planned on posting pictures of my boots, but since a few people have spaced on sending me the pics of theirs, I figured "why not.....i've obsessed over this shit long enough to be able to post them"

Model: Red Wing 877

I've had the standard 6" high boots before, but upon this go around, I really wanted something a bit higher that would get me through the winter and be able to worn on the motorcycle. These fit the bill at 8" high and the tongue is connected inside the boot up to the second to last eyelet so no rain or snow is getting in these puppies.

Plus, the extra height may help protect from road debris, or the occasional digital elph camera to the shin that I experienced a few years ago.

There's a great workwear shop called Frankel's in Brooklyn that carries Red Wing, Thorogood, Weinbrenner, and pretty much every other brand of top quality footwear as well as Carhartt, and Dickies work clothes. If you're in/around the city, head on down to 40th street in Sunset Park and go check it out.

Boot Week - Day Th3ree - Malcolm Giblin

our third day takes us to the feet of a California transplant now living in the Bronx. I met Malcom on the Di Enda Run out to Montauk this past September. He was just ripping around on his 96" S&S rigid with the frisco mounted wassell tank and grey paint job. OH, and his camera constantly out, perfectly sketchy. He was previously on the Hopper Mag roster, but recently decided to just do his own thing and started up this little blog. that's probably what everyone loves about Malc, he marches to the beat of his own drummer. because he wants to.

Model: Thorogood Plain Toe 814-4009

"These are my work boots. They're Thorogoods (owned by Weinbrenner USA*) and they're pretty nifty boots to wear while stumbling around construction sites. These are Waterproof and Insulated, and if I ever felt like proving how macho I am to a bunch of people I don't know by riding my bike thru rain, sleet, and snow ---- THESE are the boots I'd wear while riding through said shitty weather and taking pictures to post on a Biker Blog."

"Unfortunately, I'm more concerned with how cool my shifter lever looks (i.e. a short forged cam lever with "BEAVER" written on it) which in turn prevents me from riding comfortably with boots. So I throw caution to the wind, and ride with those black California Biker Slippers (AKA Vans) pictured in the background."

*quick edit and info from Matt. while these boots may look similar to some of another brand's offerings, Weinbrenner USA is older than Red Wing and all of their American Heritage boots are union made here in the USA and for a retail price easier to swallow than Red Wings.

Boot Week - Day Two - Walter Gemeinhardt

yes, its true, that's how you spell his last name. Walter has the trickiest last name in the book.....or at least I've always thought so. And if you're in Jersey, you need to look him up and go check out the new Kick Start Cycle Supply shop! his blog is a daily regular for me as well.

Walter is an amazing guy who is CONSTANTLY doing everything he can for the NY/NJ scene. He supports the events, throws some great ones himself and is one of the most supportive dudes out there. Just don't cross him...or look at him funny.....or ride like an asshole. because he will call you on it, and it won't be pretty. mostly, he's just a teddy bear though. (unless you try to hug him like one)

Here's what he had to say about his weapon of choice...

Model: Red Wing Motorcycle Boot

"Well made, once broken in like wearing slippers that you can kick in a door with."

well stated I think.

Boot Week - Day 1 - Jake Hobbs

Boots are an important article. Whether being worn for work, for play, on a motorcycle or just out for a beer, one thing is true; A great pair of boots will never let you down.

Especially after they break in. They may fight you at first, leaving you in pain as the tough leather fights its way against reshaping to YOUR feet, ankles, legs, but once they get the attention they need, they will be with you for a long time. And not to mention, with proper servicing, their life can last a long time

For installment #1, I hit up Jake Hobbs, or Hollywood as he is affectionately known to his Bolts Action brothers. Enjoy.

words and pics courtesy of Mr. Hobbs:

Model: Red Wing 4321

"I wanted to find a boot I could wear everyday. Something that could breathe in 110 degree Phoenix weather and keep my feet warm in Salt Lake Winters. This was also the only boot that Red Wing was offering in black with the Moc silhouette at the time."

"They are by far the most comfortable thing I have ever put on my feet. I have re-soled them twice and will continue to until the upper is dead. They have been everywhere with me and haven't skipped a beat. They've survived a Mexican beating on multiple occasions, and 200 miles of constant rain through the state of Nevada. The go to piece in my closet for sure."

industrial strength

whenever I see this monicker on products I always wish they would list which industries they designed for. I bought some velcro and it was listed as industrial strength. Now, if it said industrial strength for the pillow industry, its performance would have made sense. OR if it was for the construction industry, well....ok, then this stuff better be good. you know what I'm saying??

anyway, here a few pictures of my much blog deprived cats, Khan and Ellie. they were cuddling on our bed otherwise known as Kitty Island and I had to capture the moment. For the second picture Khan got camera shy.

Roller Assemble!!

Wassell is on it's way. Threw the sportster peanut on there just to mock it up. Still alot of kinks to work out and plenty of surprises ahead! But this whole winter downtime thing has been nice so far. This is the new frame with weld on and while it is WAY better than the last, it still has an imperfect geometry. Maybe try a 19" rear wheel and shorter front end to balance out the stance....oh and not sold on this wide glide on what will be such a narrow bike, but its what he had on his original bike. Hopefully when Jason stops by the shop he will like what he sees so far, even though its far from done.

It IS real

Little Motor

Is out

Stripping

It all down

kickstart BSA's heart

before tearing the bike completely down, we decided to see if this motor would come to life. an hour, a sore knee, 2 cleaned spark plugs, 2 cleaned Amals and then some starter fluid later and she gave a nice little roar. Then, of course, didn't idle and died. But the point is......if it runs before the tear down, it SHOULD run after the rebuild.
