ride comin' up and getting the bike ready

all the blogs are blowing up with bike updates, helmets, fun stuff, and it's making me excited about this weekend's ride to Vegas and then back to socal to Huntington Beach. Jake did an amazing job first with his sporty and now his Moto 3 as well. Makes me want to paint my old full face, but the evel knievel job on there is just too perfectly cheesy/radical to strip off for now.

here's a few of the latest pics of the bike. newer-ish short rear fender. It was the front fender, but chopped it short, bent it a bit to make it slightly wider....looks pretty good, cracked the paint a bit, but there's still the other half of the front fender that i can get it right with.

sorta aerial view with the chopped fender struts. I can go shorter with them, but for now they are good.

and of course the evel knishel

yes knish

crazy. just crazy. also 50.

House Project Saturday

Welcome to our home! New door is installed. Any recommendations on color? We were thinking a nice bright red stain ala the Eames LCW Lounge Chair on the outside and keeping the inside the natural Douglas Fir with a clear satin stain. I think the cats will enjoy the door all day while we're at work. I still need to install the runner along the bottom of the door that prevents the drafts and that will close up the final little gap that you can still see.....

The old owners of our house had two of these doors that they never got around to using so they left them for us. Finally after buying a handle set and deadbolt back in December, we decided Saturday was the day to get the new door hung.

Here's a picture of the entrance with the old door. Nice, a bit on the spanish style for us. It's a nice heavy solid door though, but with living in a small house, the key is to allow as much natural light in as possible. We always found that we left the door open to allow the light in.

And here's the house after. You can see how much light this will let into the house. It definitely freshens up the entrance area of the house with less of a solid door and has a nice mid century touch. With our property lined with all the banana trees and palms and other vines along the fench along with the private driveway it allows us to keep the house without much blinds or curtains since not many people can actually see into the windows. (of course after they catch me walking around post-shower, they might wish they never looked in the windows anyways) Up next, new doorbell button....

Low Tide Beach Walk

Negative low tides really exposes some shit I wish I could NEVER see. I always like to believe that 1) I'm all alone in the water and 2) there's nothing scary and jagged under me.

I'm always wrong on both accounts.

Thursday, tomorrow, live music, Belly Up

ok, I'm trying to calm down but only one day left till No Knife plays at the Belly Up. Which also means one day left until I play at the Belly Up as well since my band, John Foothills Band is opening up the show. This is the band that I play drums in.

Fuck, this will be a good time. I've said it before, but I feel very lucky to have gotten to know the guys in No Knife, and then wind up playing in another band, GYDO, with Brian on top of that. Good dudes, good tunes, good times.

SO COME ON OUT TO THE BELLY UP THURSDAY NIGHT. I promise it will be a great show.

No Knife, The Focus Group, and John Foothills Band.

Not a night to be missed. You will regret it if you do. That much I can promise.

this weekend in encinitas

if you're around in north county this weekend, you should head over to the UNIV shop in Encintas for a little event Saturday night.

The Lovewright Company & UNIV present the Recession Sessions. Looks like there will be a motorcycle exibit courtesy of 02 Motorworks as well.

Unfortunately, I won't be able to attend, but FORTUNATELY for me, I'll be out of town on vacation with my wife for our 2 year anniversary. If you have gifts for us, please, please feel free to send them to us. Its a pretty big deal. They say that if you make it past the first 2 years, then you'll probably make it for at least 2 more!

so do yourself a favor and check out all the radness that UNIV has going on and say hi to Tim and the gang over there.

the wave

I'm not sure if I'M the jerk in the situation or what.....BUT I just don't feel obligated to 'wave' to fellow motorcycle riders when I'm riding. Especially other Harley dudes, but even the street bike crowd. I'm not purposely avoiding it, but I'll notice it sometimes that some dude going the other way in traffic will be almost flagging me down to wave, so if that happens I might lift my left hand off my grip and give a peace sign or something....

OK, I do totally avoid the guys with the mohawk helmets, that I can admit, unless of course its DMX and the Ruff Ryders, cause then I'll stop and just chit chat it up with them.

so, are we the New Jeeps? I know harley guys have been waving to eachother probably longer than bros with CJ7's, but are we obligated? Is it something that we must do? I think not, but still I feel bad if I think that some other idiot now thinks that I purposely avoided it.
