1972 CB350

On Sunday night, I headed up to Nyack to have dinner with the rents. I've been watching my dad rebuild the carbs for some time now and it was finally ready for a ride! Bike started right up and without hesitation I looked back at him and said, "it'll be fine....."

About 5 miles into my ride, the rear started feeling squirrely, you know the feeling...FLAT TIRE! I slowed the bike down a few hundred yards from the nearest gas station and walked it there. brand new tires, must have pinched the tube or something. all good, added some air and rode back to their house.

I forgot how much fun it was to ride a bike like this. Sitting upright, suspension that works, nice and lightweight and the roads at night in the suburbs can't be beat. Dark, nobody on them, trees hanging over the lanes, just really beautiful.

the twins are the way to go if you're going to get a Honda. Now, if they could just figure out a way to eliminate one of the carbs and make it even simpler...

MOTOCOMPO

So my original mission up to Taipei was only partially successful. Located the shops I want to visit, but kept missing them. BUT I did find a Moto Compo.....

advertisement.

Without a doubt the coolest thing Honda has brought the world since the CB 350 Twin.

in the beginning

there was my 1964 Trail 90.

Technically, the model number was a CT-200 and from what I've researched, they started using the actual engine size in the 1967 models when it became the CT90.

Jake was in town when I bought it and he drove with me to go check it out. After ripping around the guys culdesac, I handed over the $500 and rode it from east oceanside back to Encinitas. I had never ridden a motorcycle before that, didn't have my permit, and wasn't really sure how to get back to my place. Jake drove my car and followed me to make sure I didn't break down in my 40mph speed range.

This was a super fun bike. I definitely wish I still had this one. One day when I was riding it home from a little surf session, wetsuit still on, board under my arm, my neighbor offered to buy it from me because "he had a Trail 90 as his first motorcycle when he was just a boy".....he made me an offer I couldn't refuse. but totally should have. Turns out he never filed the paperwork with the DMV, so I still get the registration letters sent to me. I just filed it as non-op again and I need to take care of it when I get back from Taiwan. I sold it 3 years ago. Maybe I'll just report it as stolen and get it back...hmmm.......

I miss this bike...

Looked great, felt great, never ran well, never held a charge, barely kicked over, but I miss it now that I have a bike that runs well. Winter Project a CB?

It was a sad day when I sold it, but it allowed me to get my first Harley which was a pretty cool day as well. Maybe I'll contact the guy I sold it to and try to buy it back....
